About
Green Screen international wildlife film festival

The Green Screen International Wildlife Film Festival, held annually in and around Eckernförde, Germany, showcases full-length and short nature documentaries featuring animals in their natural habitats. With approximately 30,000 visitors, it stands as the largest nature film festival in Europe. Uniquely, the festival awards a trophy made of sand to its winners.

Since 2007, films have been screened in cinemas throughout Eckernförde and on mobile screens in various locations within and surrounding the city.

In 2012, approximately 13,600 visitors enjoyed nearly 100 spectacular nature-related films and had the opportunity to meet with influential figures from the worlds of commerce and politics. Additionally, numerous international filmmakers, producers, and broadcasting commissioners were in attendance.

The Green Screen International wildlife film festival has firmly established itself as an international meeting place for natural history filmmakers and offers a distinctive symbiosis for both industry professionals and the general public. Within an informal and casual setting, moviegoers can directly engage with attending filmmakers, asking questions, providing feedback, and making suggestions. Conversely, filmmakers gain more than just audience ratings; they experience firsthand the reactions of viewers to their productions.
